Saving salons time, money and emissions, the AHC and Greener’s new partnership paves the way for thousands of salon owners around Australia to save money and fast track their emissions reduction.
The AHC is super excited to announce that we have joined forces with Greener to help salon owners and their small to medium businesses (SMBs) save money and fast-track their sustainability journey towards net-zero emissions.
Under the new partnership, AHC members will have free access to Greener’s all-in-one digital sustainability solution, Greener for Business, valued at $228 per year; to help them prioritise simple steps in their businesses to save money, with the added benefit of helping reduce their carbon footprint at the same time.
How Greener for Business works
Greener takes the guesswork out of becoming more sustainable, with a simple step-by-step climate action plan designed by experts. Plus, tools and resources, and exclusive supplier offers that make it easy to save money while reducing your carbon footprint.
Why the AHC is partnering with Greener
For too long, getting greener has been seen as too complicated and too expensive. To shift the needle on climate action, we need to make being more sustainable the better, easier choice. Put simply, we believe if we can help businesses save money by going green, we can make a meaningful impact and help end climate change.
What are the benefits?
Under the new partnership, AHC members will have free access to Greener’s all-in-one digital sustainability solution, Greener for Business, valued at $228 per year; to help them prioritise simple steps in their businesses to save money, with the added benefit of helping reduce their carbon footprint at the same time.
“As the national voice connecting hairdressing and barber professionals, educators, and suppliers, the AHC has a unique opportunity to really move the needle on climate action and do it in a way that supports a stronger, more sustainable hair and beauty industry for the future,” said Sandy Chong, AHC CEO. “The overwhelming majority of businesses operating in the hair and beauty industry are small and micro businesses. That’s why it’s so important for organisations like ours to be partnering with solutions like Greener for Business to make it easy for business owners to take action and improve their bottom line.”
What impact do salons have on the environment?
“What many people don’t realise is that everything we do has a hidden carbon price tag. In fact, SMBs are responsible for roughly 40 percent of Australia’s emissions, and with 26,000 salons Australia-wide, that’s as much as 1.8 million tonnes of CO2 from the hair and beauty industry alone. To put that in perspective, by turning every salon green, we could take the equivalent of 820,000 cars off the road in emissions,” said Tom Ferrier, founder of Greener.
“But more importantly for these small business owners, becoming more sustainable is a marketable advantage that can help them cut costs and stand out in a crowded market. So we’re excited to be partnering with the AHC to help every salon in Australia get greener, and save money at the same time,” said Ferrier.
How much could you save?
While the implementation of sustainable practices has traditionally been time-intensive and costly, Greener has built a solution that removes these pain points by making it easy for business owners to transform their operations across key emissions areas such as energy, waste, electrification, packaging, and logistics, while also helping to unlock savings for their bottom line. For example, switching to GreenPower could save the average small business upwards of $800 a year and reduce emissions by 11.5 tonnes; while high-impact changes such as swapping an old commercial hot water system for a brand new energy-efficient heat pump could reduce energy bills by up to 75 percent. Government incentives on offer for energy-efficient upgrades to help reduce upfront cost mean businesses can start saving sooner.
AHC member and Hair Director at Toni & Guy Newcastle, Rozlyn Thomas, is already reaping the rewards of the new Greener partnership, unlocking more than $3,600 in savings with one simple switch to GreenPower.
With exclusive offers from sustainable suppliers, expert advice, tips and how-to guides, Greener for Business is the AHC’s latest program of member benefits, designed to help support a thriving hair and beauty industry.
The AHC joins other industry leaders and peak bodies – including Australian Retailers Association, Better Business Partnership, Origin, Tyro and more in partnering with Greener to help accelerate Australia’s transition to net zero. By helping every small and medium business in Australia halve emissions by 2030, Greener estimates the potential impact would be the equivalent to taking 25 million cars off the road in emissions, which is more than the number of cars on the road in the country today.
